In our previous updates, we shared our ambitious goals to send hundreds of children to school. But anyone who has visited the Jua Foundation in Dandora knows that paying school fees is only half the battle.
A child cannot learn effectively if they are hungry. They cannot walk to school safely without shoes. They cannot write without pens, and they cannot feel a sense of pride without a proper bag to carry their books.
Our third major project focuses on the "Hardware of Hope." We are raising funds to address the critical structural needs of the Jua Foundation center and the personal welfare of the children who rely on it.
THE PROJECT: RENOVATING & EQUIPPING
This project is about creating a safe, sanitary, and dignified environment. We are targeting specific areas where your support will make an immediate, tangible difference. In the spirit of total transparency, here is exactly what these improvements cost.
1. The Kitchen Renovation (25,000 KES)
The kitchen is the heart of the Jua Foundation. In an area like Dandora, the meal a child receives at the center might be their only nutritious meal of the day.
• The Cost: For just 25,000 KES, we can upgrade this critical space.
• The Goal: This fund allows us to renovate the cooking area to meet sanitary standards, ensuring it is clean, efficient, and capable of preparing safe, hot meals for hundreds of children daily.
2. Structural Renovation (200,000 KES)
The center serves as a safe haven away from the hazards of the dumpsite, but the current structure needs urgent reinforcement.
• The Cost: We are seeking 200,000 KES for major structural works.
• The Goal: This covers reinforcing walls, fixing roofing, and general repairs to ensure the building is physically safe and secure for every child who walks through the doors.
3. Stationery Packs (1,000 KES per child)
Tuition gets a child into the classroom, but tools keep them there.
• The Cost: 1,000 KES outfits one student.
• The Pack: This small amount provides a comprehensive set of exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, and mathematical sets—the essential tools of the trade for a young student.
4. Shoes (1,500 KES) and School Bags (1,000 KES)
In the rough terrain of Dandora, proper gear is a safety necessity, not a luxury.
• Shoes (1,500 KES): We provide sturdy school shoes to protect the children’s feet from sharp objects and waste as they walk to and from school.
• Bags (1,000 KES): A school bag gives a child a sense of ownership. It protects their books from the weather and dust, ensuring their education is treated with the value it deserves. Restoring Dignity, One Pair of Shoes at a Time.
When a child walks into a classroom wearing a tattered uniform, carrying books in a plastic bag, or wearing worn-out sandals, they often feel "less than" their peers. This affects their confidence and their participation.
By contributing 1,500 KES for shoes or 1,000 KES for a bag, you are doing more than protecting their feet and books; you are protecting their dignity. You are telling them, "You belong here. You matter."
Transparent Giving: See the Cement, See the Shoes
This project offers a unique opportunity for donors who like to see tangible results.
• For the Renovation: We will track the purchase of materials and show you the before-and-after of the construction.
• For the Welfare: We will document the distribution of stationery, shoes, and bags. You will see the smiles of the children receiving their new gear.
Build With Us, The Jua Foundation is a sanctuary. Help us make it stronger, safer, and better equipped. Whether you contribute 1,000 KES for a stationery pack or help us reach the 25,000 KES goal for the kitchen, you are building the physical foundation upon which their future rests.
Let’s ensure that when these children go to school, they go prepared, protected, and proud.
