Educating 500 Children

In the heart of Nairobi lies the Dandora Dumpsite, one of the largest unregulated landfill sites in Africa. For thousands of families, this isn't just a waste disposal site—it is home. It is a place where livelihoods are scraped together from what the city has thrown away. But amidst the mountains of refuse and the haze of smoke, there is something else growing: Hope.
At The Present Friend, we believe that geography should not dictate destiny. We believe that every child, regardless of where they sleep at night, deserves the right to dream, to learn, and to build a future defined by their potential rather than their circumstances.
This belief is the driving force behind our inaugural and most ambitious project yet: Educating 500 Children with the Jua Foundation.
The Project: Scaling Up Impact
Our goal is bold but achievable. We are partnering with the Jua Foundation to scale their impact nearly ten-fold. We are on a mission to move from supporting 57 children to educating 500 children.
How will we do it? We believe in sustainable, scalable solutions. We aren't building new private institutions; we are utilizing the existing infrastructure of public schools. This approach ensures that the children are integrated into the wider educational system and that the costs remain manageable, maximizing the impact of every donation.
The Cost of a Future: 16,000 KES
Transparency is the heartbeat of The Present Friend. We want you to know exactly what it takes to change a life. The cost to send one child to school for an entire year is 16,000 KES (approx. $110 - $125 USD).
Let that sink in. For the price of a nice dinner out or a few months of streaming subscriptions, a child in Dandora receives:
• A full year of education.
• Safety during the day, away from the hazards of the dumpsite.
• Dignity that comes with wearing a uniform and belonging to a school community.
• A future that they can shape themselves.
The Present Friend Promise: 100% Transparency
We know that trust is the biggest barrier to giving. You want to know that your hard-earned money is actually doing what it was promised to do.
That is why The Present Friend operates differently.
1. We Don’t Touch the Money: Our platform connects donors directly to the needs.
2. Traceable Impact: We verify the project, we verify the costs, and we ensure that the support goes exactly where it is intended.
3. Real Presence: As our name suggests, we are present. We document the journey. We show you the uniforms being bought, the fees being paid, and the children sitting at their desks.
Join Us in Writing This Story
This blog is more than just an update; it is an invitation.
We are looking for partners—individuals, families, and companies—who see the value in these 500 lives. Whether you can sponsor one child for a year, five children, or simply contribute a portion of a fee, your "presence" is felt here.
The Jua Foundation is ready. The schools are ready. The children are more than ready. All that is missing is the bridge to get them there. Will you be that bridge?
Together, let’s clear the path from the dumpsite to the desk. Let’s turn 57 into 500.
